Midnight Mackerel: Boston Harbor's Nocturnal Inshore Action

Right from the start, I could tell we were in for something special when I met up with Shrunga in Boston, MA for our inshore fishing adventure. We kicked off our trip at midnight in June, which gave us a unique perspective on the harbor's nocturnal fishing scene. The partly cloudy conditions throughout the day provided ideal cover, allowing us to target various species without the harsh glare on the water. Despite being an urban setting, the Kaveri River Basin's influence on the local waterways created some interesting fishing opportunities. As the tide changed, we switched to bottom fishing, targeting structure where fish tend to congregate. Bait casting along the shorelines rounded out our approach. Our efforts paid off when Shrunga hooked into a King Mackerel, measuring an impressive 27 inches. We also managed to land a Red lionfish, which was an unexpected but welcome catch in these waters. Both species are well-suited for the diverse habitats found in Boston's inshore waters.

Looking back, this trip showcased the incredible fishing potential right here in Boston Harbor.
