Backwater Bliss: Casting for Seabass in the Kaveri River Basin

It was another great day out on the water with Ross, exploring the Kaveri River Basin near Boston. March is a prime time for backwater fishing around these parts, as the warming waters bring the fish up shallow and the weather is mild enough to make for a comfortable day on the boat. We met up at Boston Logan International Airport bright and early, loaded up the gear, and headed out to tackle the backwaters.

Once we hit the water, we started working a mix of techniques—deep sea, jigging, trolling, you name it. The fish were scattered, so we had to cover some water to find them. It wasn't long before Ross hooked into a nice European seabass on a deep sea rig. That fish put up a heck of a fight, stripping line and making some impressive runs, but Ross kept his cool and got it to the boat. We saw a few more seabass busting the surface, so we started casting jigs their way, managing to land a couple more. The bite was a little slow, but that's all part of the game when you're fishing these backwaters.

In between the fishing, we carved through the scenic Kaveri River, taking in the views and enjoying the peaceful setting. Even when the fish weren't cooperating, it was just a pleasure to be out on the water.
